At the lodge annual Sunday Lunch event, held at the Lyric Rooms adjacent to the Ashby De La Zouch Masonic Hall, over 50 brethren including family and friends were treated to great company and fine dining to support the Worshipful Master and his chosen Charity. As now a long standing tradition, the children present organised the raffle, selling tickets to win many prizes kindly donated by the brethren. After all of the tickets were sold, £230 was raised for the Joe Humphries Trust.
On October 14th 2012, Joe Humphries a fit and healthy 14 year old boy collapsed and passed away whilst out jogging in Rothley, Leicestershire, just a stone’s throw away from his home. Joe was a victim of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), a condition that often strikes without warning. Joes became one of the 12 young people (aged 12 – 35 years old) a week and over 600 a year in Great Britain to lose his life to SADS.
At the informal Sunday lunch, all those in attendance were treated to a three course meal including a classic roast a wide variety of desserts.
